Homemade Foaming Hand Soap- Onguard

Did you know that most products that you use in your home contain triclosan?  The FDA had decided this was a safe product but after several scientific studies caused alarm, they are reviewing it further.  Read about it here.   One of the paragraphs says "Animal studies have shown that triclosan alters hormone regulation. However, data showing effects in animals don’t always predict effects in humans. Other studies in bacteria have raised the possibility that triclosan contributes to making bacteria resistant to antibiotics."

The two key concerns I read were the possibility of altering hormone regulation and making bacteria resistant to antibiotics.  Two things that I don't want to take a chance with in my home.

doTERRA makes an excellent foaming hand wash that you can purchase here.
Currently I'm putting my resources into purchasing all of doTERRA's oils before I purchase the products for my home so I decided to make my own.  It's super easy and it doesn't contain anything that would be harmful to my family.

All you need is 3 ingredients.  Water, Organic Castile Soap, and Onguard Essential Oil.

Why did I use Onguard?  On Guard is dōTERRA®'s unique, proprietary blend formulated to support healthy immune function. Wild orange essential oil, combined with clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary offer a fragrant, natural and effective alternative to synthetic options for immune support

How to Make- Fill a foaming hand soap bottle 3/4 full of water (make sure the container is make out of PET plastic or glass).  Add 2 tablespoons of organic castile soap, and 5 drops of ongaurd and shake together.  THAT'S IT!

What is my total cost???  Not including the bottle that I can use over and over again, it cost me a total of $1.20.  That's my estimation if you were to pay full Retail Price for your Onguard Essentail Oil.  To purchase any of doTERRA's products at wholesale, send me an email and I'll help you get started.

Daily Facial Moisturizer

In the Fall 2012 edition of "doTERRA Living" it provides a recipe for making your own daily facial moisturizer.  This edition came right in time because I was almost out.

You can purchase facial moisturizer from doTERRA here or make your own.

What You'll Need....

2 Tablespoons Almond Oil (this cost me $1.46)
2 teaspoons vegetable glycerin (this cost me $.10)
1 1/2 teaspoon grated beeswax (this cost me $.35)
1 tablespoon distilled or spring water
1 vitamin E capsule (this cost me $.20)
30 drops of doTERRA essential oil (this costs approximately $3.00, it will depend on the oil you choose.)
Try: Lavender and Roman Chamomile to soothe skin, melaluca or geranium for a clearer complexion.  Purchase here.

DIRECTIONS: Combine the first three ingredients in a small saucepan and warm the mixture over very low heat, stirring occasionally until the beeswax melts.

In a separate saucepan warm the water over low heat.  Remove both pans from the heat and cool until wax and oil mixture just begin to thicken but is still liquid.

Drizzle the warm water in the oil and wax mixture, while stirring rapidly with a wire whisk.  Continue whisking vigorously for 3-4 minutes until the mixture become a pale yellow.

Pierce the vitamin E capsule and squeeze the contents into the cream.  Next add the essential oil and continue whisking for another 4-5 minutes until cream is thick and shiny.

Transfer to a glass jar and allow the cream to set for at least an hour before using it.  The moisturizer will keep for 3-6 months refrigerated or 1 month if left a room temperature.

Estimated TOTAL cost;  $5.11.  I have never found a moisturizer for this price, yet alone one that is all natural and great for my skin.

I doubled the recipe and it still only made 4 ounces.  It's very strong so a little bit goes a long way but I'd probably quadruple the recipe next time and put the extra in the fridge.

My doTERRA Story

If you asked me two years ago if I'd be using essentials oils and promoting them I'd tell you that you were crazy.

Two years ago I did meet someone that used doTERRA oils and loved them.  I'd hear her mention tidbits here and there but I wasn't interested.

About a year later I had adorable twin girls.  Although they are super healthy, they seemed to pass a lot of junk back and forth to each other.  There really aren't medications for little babes and by this point my sister had started using doTERRA and would bring oils to put on my little girls.  I didn't like the price tag and starting shopping for cheaper alternatives.  I found an oil company that sold their oils for about half as much and started using 3 different oils.  It didn't take me long to realize when it said 100% pure, that it wasn't necessarily true.  I found that I was having to use 4 times as much oil to get the same concentration I did with my sisters doTERRA oils.

Fast forward another year and the gal that had planted that little doTERRA seed was now a Diamond and she did it in the same month that she had twins.  That's when my little seed started to grow.

My sister then decided that she too was going to start promoting these oils that she had loved and shared over the past year.  In support of her I attended her first class and was instantly hooked.

I was hooked by the GREEN...going green and the possibility of earning green.

I want to provide the most healthy environment for my 4 children.  I also want to help provide a financially stable home too.  My husband works commission in the medical field and provides a great life for our family BUT it's not always a stable paycheck and our unknown economy is always a little worrisome.  I KNOW that doTERRA can provide so much for my family in so many ways!

If you want more information about doTERRA, contact me, I'd love to hear from you.
